Expert Coaches & Dedicated Staff

Kents Hill Sports Camp’s hand-picked coaches and staff members are selected for their expertise in their particular sport, and for their passion, commitment, and experience working with young children.

We understand that our campers have selected a major they love and strive to improve in. At Kents Hill Sports Camp, all of our sports directors are collegiate coaches that bring a next level of instruction that is well planned, organized, and will challenge campers of all skill levels. Our coaches will assess each camper’s skills and abilities and set goals for each camper to work on.

While our sports directors do their hard work and training on the fields, our highly skilled female dorm counselors have the dual role of assisting in athletics, and most importantly, living with the campers; providing support, supervision, and care 24 hours a day.

Our counselors are collegiate athletes who are highly motivated and work hard to mentor, inspire, and build trust amongst the campers. Our counselors play the most important role in creating a summer sleepaway experience that your child will cherish for a lifetime.

Our hiring process is extensive, consisting of an interview, multiple reference checks, background and clearance checks, and multiple conversations to ensure each candidate aligns with the values we promote at Kents Hill Sports Camp. All of our staff members participate in a one week staff orientation prior to campers arrival.

Choosing the Right Camp

The premier all-girls sports sleepaway camp in Maine and New England

Two three-week sessions on the 400-acre Kents Hill School campus, for girls ages 8 to 16 who want real coaching in the sport they love, plus everything else a traditional Maine sleepaway camp gives a kid for three weeks.

Kents Hill Sports Camp is the only all-girls sleepaway camp in Maine or New England built around a true sports-major system: campers choose one or two majors from soccer, ice hockey, field hockey, dance, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, or volleyball, and train under coaches who played or coached at the college level, not counselors running a general activity rotation. Most all-girls camps in the region are traditional camps with sports as one of many offerings. Kents Hill flips that: sport comes first, camp tradition comes with it.

What makes Kents Hill Sports Camp the premier option?

  • A real major, not a sampler. Campers select 1 to 2 majors before the summer starts and get a personalized daily schedule built around them, with more than 20 minor activities layered in. That’s a level of specialization most general sleepaway camps in Maine don’t offer.
  • College-level coaching. Every major coach has played or coached at the high school or college level. Dorm counselors, who live with the girls and handle daily supervision, are separate from the coaching staff, so athletic instruction and camper care are each run by people focused on one job.
  • Facilities built for training, not just recreation. Exclusive summer use of the 400-acre Kents Hill School campus gives campers an ice hockey arena, an indoor basketball court, tennis courts, turf and grass fields, a dance and yoga studio, a fitness center, and a performing arts center. This is a boarding school’s athletic infrastructure, available all summer.
  • A leadership team that’s done this before. Owner and director Kevin Kooperman spent 10 years as assistant director of Bridgton Sports Camp for Boys, the brother camp his brother Brian Kooperman founded, before building the same model for girls at Kents Hill. Assistant Director Alyson Lee brings more than 40 years in camping. This isn’t a first-summer operation figuring things out.
  • All the traditional camp a parent expects. Color war, a carnival, a dance recital, campfires, and out-of-camp trips (white-water rafting, an amusement and water park, a Boston day trip) round out the three weeks, so a camper gets the traditional sleepaway experience alongside the athletics.

How it’s different from other camps

If your daughter wants a general sleepaway camp experience with sports as one activity among many, Kents Hill isn’t that; that’s a traditional camp. If she wants to spend real, focused time getting better at one or two sports, with the traditional camp spirit still built in around it, Kents Hill is the only one doing that specific combination for girls in this region.
